The increasing number of veterinary clinics in Malaysia is another proof that many Malaysians are animal lovers and are willing to give them a better quality of life. Deemed as one of the best stress relievers, having a pet brings numerous emotional benefits and immeasurable happiness. Very soon, these furry companions will make their ways to your heart and become part of your family without you even realising it. The cat that you once restrict from entering your room will be sleeping right beside your face on your bed the next day. Undoubtedly, these adorable and endearing creatures should be treated just as such, like a family.
Perhaps, the thing that pet owners dread to hear about the most is when something unfortunate has happened to their furry companion and is advised to be put to sleep. They may not be human, but the bond we share with our furkids is indescribable. The thought of losing them feels so painful, like a very important part of us is torn away. While it may be inevitable in some cases, putting pets to sleep should be the last thing ever on a pet owner's mind. As an animal lover myself, I strongly believe that pets should never be put to sleep unless it is an absolute irreversible situation. As long as there is a glimpse of hope left, all animals deserve a second chance in leading a quality life and we should do our best to help them.
There are some unsympathetic owners who would abandon their pets when they get sick instead of seeking medical help for them and nurturing them back into pink health. There are also some who would surrender their pets to shelters, citing that they are moving to a new place or they do not have time for it anymore. That is why one should always do ample research and make sure that they are capable of taking care of a furkid before taking ownership of any. Abandoning or surrendering furkids is almost equivalent of giving them a death sentence due to the low survival rate or risk getting euthanised in certain shelters after a period of time.
From time to time, we witness the power of love, patience and passion through inspiring stories of animals given a second chance in life after being rescued or saved. On the other hand, we also see sad news or videos that shed light on cruel issues such as abandonment, abuse and euthanisation which never fail to break our heart a little. The same should apply to the strays and homeless furry friends as they do not deserve any less. It is not surprising to see most if not all of these affected animals have a very strong fighting spirit and will to survive in them. Ultimately, the only thing they need, is for someone to give them a chance.
